Podcast With England Rugby Star Jonny May

In this episode, Sam interviews Jonny May.

Having just turned 30 Jonny has represented England at two rugby world cups (2015 & 2019), multiple 6 nations championships, autumn internationals and summer tours.

He has scored 65 premiership tries (Gloucester & Leicester) and 29 international tries.

This puts him 5th on the all-time England try-scoring list (leapfrogging England legend Jason Robinson after scoring two tries against France during the 2020 6 nations)

Even if you know nothing about Rugby (or sports) this discussion has so many elements that will transfer into many areas in relation to continued development, dealing with setbacks and how to improve performance.

In this episode we talk about:

  • How struggles with his development when younger has actually helped his progress.

  • How does he find the continual drive to keep making progress even though he’s already proven himself as one of the most prolific try scorers in English Rugby history.

  • What it’s like to work in an elite environment with some of the best coaches, players, strength and conditioning teams and psychologists.

  • How he approaches Nutrition and lifestyle.

  • How he deals with setbacks, such as injuries, poor performance and results.

  • The hardest thing about being a professional athlete.

  • Finally, we ask Jonny, ‘what does demand more of yourself’ mean to you?
